Girls State is a National Youth Program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. More than a million young women have attended this program designed to train potential leaders in good citizenship and to help them understand and participate in the functioning of various levels of government in their State. Each Girls State elects two (2) Senators to represent them at a session of Girls Nation to be held July 18-25 2009 , at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Instructions will be given in three ( 3) phases of government: city, county and state . You will be pre-assigned to a political party, either Nationalist or Federalist. Party caucuses will be held to elect party candidates and general elections held to elect government officials. A simulated legislative exercise will also be held.
